How This Ranking Works
The order is decided by one number: international tourist arrivals, meaning trips by non-residents who spend at least one night in the country. Where UN Tourism's statistical database holds a country's 2024 figure, that is the figure used. Where it does not — the database lags for many countries, including several of the largest — the figure comes from the country's own statistics office or tourism ministry, and every row links to the page it came from. 43 of the 50 ranked countries are on 2024 figures; the rest show their latest published year.
"All countries" means the 193 UN member states plus Kosovo, Palestine, Taiwan and Vatican City. Population for the "Per resident" column is the World Bank's 2024 estimate. Last checked 2026-09-30.

France, with 102,000,000 international tourist arrivals in 2024. Spain is second with 93,700,000, and the rest of the top five are the United States, China and Turkey.

Which continent gets the most international tourists?
Europe, by a wide margin: its 13 ranked countries received 472,660,000 arrivals, 43% of the world total on this page. Asia took 33%, North America took 14%, Africa took 6%, South America took 3%, Oceania took 1%.
Which country gets the most tourists for its size?
Andorra, with about 51 international arrivals for every person who lives there — small countries next to big markets run far ahead of the rest. Among countries of at least a million people, Greece leads with about 3.5 per resident. Sort the table by its "Per resident" column to see the full order.
What does "international tourist arrivals" mean?
It counts trips by non-residents who stay at least one night in the country, as UN Tourism defines it. A person who visits three times is counted three times, and someone crossing two countries on one trip is counted in each. Returning citizens and domestic travellers are not counted. A few countries only publish a figure that also includes same-day visitors; those rows are marked in the table.
Why do some countries have no rank?
A country is ranked only when it has a published figure from 2022 or later. Older figures, or those from the 2020–21 travel collapse, are still shown with their year but are not given a rank. 147 countries, including Afghanistan, Albania, Angola and Antigua and Barbuda, publish no reliable arrivals count at all.
Where do these figures come from?
From UN Tourism's statistical database where it holds the 2024 figure, and otherwise from the country's own statistics office or tourism ministry. 43 of the 50 ranked countries are on 2024 figures.
