If we cover your destination, this page explains how that guide was built, what we will change if it is wrong, and what we can send you. Everything here is meant to be checkable: the figures below are counted from the live site each time it is published, not typed into the copy.

Coverage at a glance

  • 259published guides — 181 destination guides and 78 global record countdowns
  • 5,917individual places pinned and written up across them
  • 52US states and territories, including all 50 states
  • 29countries beyond the United States, with more in production

Who runs City Viking

Our guides are produced by a small editorial team of researchers, writers, proofreaders and editors, and every entry is edited to meet these standards before it goes live. We do not accept guest submissions, and nobody outside the organisation can place an entry or a link in a guide.

Editorial decisions — what makes a list, in what order, and what gets corrected — rest with our editors and with nobody outside the organisation. No destination, attraction or agency has any say in what we publish. We are an independent publisher, not a marketing partner: we do not run sponsored placements, affiliate listings or paid features.

How our rankings are made

Each guide starts from a data-led shortlist: we combine a broad brainstorm of candidate places with live listings data, including public review counts and ratings from Google Places. We then rank candidates primarily by the volume of real visitor reviews they have earned rather than by editorial preference. Category limits and floors stop a single type of attraction crowding out a balanced itinerary.

Alongside the ranking we hand-pick a small editor’s choice set: the places most distinctive to a destination, however they happen to rank on review volume. Those picks are labelled where they appear, so you always know which part of a guide is data and which part is judgement.

No business can pay to be listed, to rank higher, or to have a rival left out. No entry on this site is sponsored or a paid placement, and we carry no advertising inside our guides. Our full method is set out on our editorial guidelines page.

One consequence worth knowing before you read a guide about your own destination: because the ordering follows review volume, a list can rank attractions differently from how a destination would present them itself, and a much-loved place with a small review count can sit lower than you would expect. That is the method working as intended, not an oversight — and we are happy to explain any specific ordering on request.

Corrections

If something in a guide is wrong, out of date, or attributed to the wrong place, tell us and we will fix it. We treat a correction from a local tourism office or attraction operator as authoritative over any data source we hold, and we ask for nothing in return for making one. Substantive corrections are made within a week, and the guide’s “Last verified” date is updated when they are.

Send corrections to press@cityviking.com with the page and the detail that is wrong. If a place in your area has opened, closed, moved or been renamed since our last verification pass, that is exactly the kind of thing we want to hear.

What we can and cannot provide

  • We can share our ranking data

If you represent a destination we cover, we will send you the full ordering of its attractions by visitor review volume — including the places that did not make the published list.

It is yours to use however you like, with no conditions attached and nothing expected back.

  • We cannot license our photography

The images in our guides are third-party licensed — Unsplash, Pexels, Pixabay, Wikimedia Commons and openly-licensed Flickr — and credited in each caption.

We hold no rights to sub-license them. If you need an image we have used, its caption links to the source and the licence.
