Statewide and countrywide round-ups are deliberately not on this page, because they name no city; they sit on their own hubs, which you can reach from Destinations.

By data first, not by taste. Each guide starts from a shortlist that combines a broad brainstorm of candidate places with live listings data — public review counts and ratings from Google Places — then ranks them primarily by the volume of real visitor reviews a place has already earned. Category limits stop museums or parks crowding out a balanced itinerary, and a small editor’s-choice set of the places most distinctive to that city is picked on top by our editors and labelled where it appears. No business can pay to be listed, to rank higher, or to have a rival left out. The full method is in our editorial guidelines.

Attractions close, move and get renamed, so we re-check published guides on a rolling basis: a verification pass confirms that every external link still resolves, that each named place is still open and has not closed, moved or been demolished, and that our superlative claims still hold. 124 of the 158 city guides listed here have been through one and carry a dated “Last verified” line at the top, so you can see how fresh the page you are reading is rather than taking a general promise on trust.

This page is the A–Z of individual cities — one row per city guide, which is what you want when you already know where you are going. Destinations is the atlas: every country and US state we cover, mapped, for when you don’t. The United States hub browses the US state by state, sourced trivia about these same cities is at Interesting Facts, and global superlative countdowns — tallest, fastest, biggest — are records rather than destinations, so they live on the World Record-Breakers hub.

This index grows as guides are researched, so a city missing today may not be missing next month. In the meantime its state or country hub lists everything we cover nearby, and the “Cities near you” row at the top of this page re-orders itself around wherever you actually are. It matches the whole row rather than just the city name, so “ohio” narrows the index to Ohio’s cities and “portugal” to Portugal’s. It is also where the search box in the site header lands when scripting is off: that form submits to this page with your query, which is then applied to the index on arrival.
